2. Introduction

The Universal Edibility Test isn’t foolproof.   You should do some homework before venturing out and testing some plants.  Understanding which color of berry is most likely to cause harm, for instance, should be your first step.

There are a number of rules of thumb to start with.  Knowing the flora of the specific region is a good thing, too.  Also, you should know the characteristics of plants you should avoid – even testing them.

After you have weeded out the more obvious “No-Nos”, then you can apply the test.
